In Ontario funding health delivery is mixed source -- Funding from province federal and some privately-run funding schemes
Private clinics for specialty services are springing up and private hospitals have been around for decades often referred to as charity hospitals although patient delivery is funded through public health insurance as mandated
Health insurance fraud is commonplace and has been prosecuted
Many argue private funding injects much needed profit motive to increase patient turn-over times. Emergency wait times are used as triage however no reason wait times for standard procedures should be beyond what can be reasonably expected of a modern mixed-specialty health system in context of mixed urban and suburban city of multitude of physicians and experts and teachers in every discipline imaginable
Debating threat of discrimination from private health delivery is real concern
Public health delivery has layers of protection from federal and provincial statutes to Colleges of Physicians and Registered Nursing Associations and Unions
In some instances firing bad doctors or specialists is easier in private clinics and private hospitals however retraining is almost always the preferred disciplinary action and that is standard in public health system
