Study: $100 More Month Saves Millions

A Niagara region study recently conducted by a coalition of provincial federal and municipal agencies has determined that an additional $100 in pockets of social services recipients would actually save governments millions

Additional costs associated with poverty include:

  • police distress calls 
  • homeless shelter costs 
  • social services agency
  • labour and administrative costs 
  • prison costs 
  • court costs 
  • hospitalization costs 
  • food assistance costs
    The study was conducted in Niagara region by a coalition of Ontario Disability Assistance Program Federal Government and not-for-profit agencies
