A Niagara region study recently conducted by a coalition of provincial federal and municipal agencies has determined that an additional $100 in pockets of social services recipients would actually save governments millions
Additional costs associated with poverty include:
- police distress calls
- homeless shelter costs
- social services agency
- labour and administrative costs
- prison costs
- court costs
- hospitalization costs
- food assistance costs
The study was conducted in Niagara region by a coalition of Ontario Disability Assistance Program Federal Government and not-for-profit agencies
